Hey all,

Looking for guidance based upon your experiences.

When I apply for a position I observe through USAJOBS, I have ever submitted my resume--customized for the specific annunciation--using USAJOBS' resume function. However, for some of the agencies (BLM) you may upload a file of your resume.

Is there whatever benefit to uploading the document over using the USAJOBS resume function?

Thank you.

I exercise the USAjobs resume, it ends up being iv-5 pages but hey, they asked for all that data. If you lot upload a shorter resume you might miss some of the things they want and you merely get i shot at it.

I only used the template in USAJobs. I recollect the Hr people are used to seeing the information presented that fashion and might prefer it, knowing that they'll know when there is missing information. But that's just a hunch.

I always did the USA job resume but had the same thoughts as yous. So I made my own custom resume and uploaded information technology every bit a "comprehend letter" in the saved documents section. my custom resume was much shorter (two pages) and only hitting the hot topics. I got picked up inside 2 months that mode

You should utilize the USAjobs resume builder because it satisfies what the Hour wants; why risk information technology. I have never had any issues with the resume architect. As well, a longer than usual resume for a federal job is not even a trouble. It will be disappointing to miss something because you decided to customize and upload your style of resume. I suggest using the USAjobs resume builder; y'all can't become wrong with it when applying for a federal position.

It really depends on what grade! If y'all're applying for something like a 5, employ the resume builder. The questions are geared to lower level jobs and they get thousands of applications ... and then it'due south easier for the recruiter. If you are applying for say 13 or higher, they would look y'all to accept a professional resume, and there aren't and so many applications. Think about it ... no existent professional is going to spiral around with the clunky resume architect!!! If you're in the mid-grades, it's tougher to call!!!

Whether you use the resume builder or not is up to you, but . . .. The resume builder is designed to ask you for data that HR explicitly expects to be provided in the resume. Skipping merely one of these data points can result in your application existence considered incomplete, or the 60 minutes person doing the review deciding that they can't find bear witness supporting your claim on the questionnaire of 6 years' experience doing [blah] in your resume (didn't include dates, or include a comment about that specific expereince in each and every time cake where information technology aplied in lodge to acquire 6 years' feel, etc.).

A professional resume tries to be far more than succinct. The regime HR squad wants explicit and detailed. If yous were responsible for the training, evaluation of grooming and personal appraisals for a team of network engineers at 3 different job positions beyond a serial of 5 positions, the Hour team wants those 3 positions to explicitly call out that responsibility (and each position to explicitly phone call out dates) . . ..

Not certain where you get this from. I managed to land several GS13 job offers (including my current position) with the resume builder in USAJOBS. Aforementioned with the well-nigh recent -fourteen and -xiii hires in my agency.

HR doesn't hire you. If you are non getting referred, so your resume is potentially not meeting the HR requirements. If yous are getting referred, then it is. If you are getting referred and not hired, you lot might desire to use a ameliorate resume format than the awful format spit out by the resume architect.

If you are the best in your field and head and shoulders above the other applicants, whether you use resume builder or not does not matter. If you are one in 400 applications for a GS-7 job, consider putting your all-time foot forward and giving the hiring official something well-formatted and easy to read.

Maybe it's overkill, just I upload my own CV also as tag the USAJobs one. That fashion, they have an option of which i to look at.
